Let Care Be Light

Ever since I graduated high school, I’ve had a job. I’ve always worked full time, and I’ve always gone to school full time. It was never one or the other, I just had to do them together. I think a main part of this was because I grew up being told that “we were working women” and that I “needed an education”. I don’t disagree with either of those statements, don’t get me wrong. But when you’ve overloaded yourself with so many things, the most important thing starts to get hidden and stuck beneath it all. What’s the most important thing? You. Me. Ourselves. And that’s why, with the loving encouragement of my husband, I made a big change and for the first time in my entire adult life I chose to quit my job and focus not only on school, but that important thing.
Me.
I always thought self care was just taking a bath at the end of the day, maybe adding a bath bomb once in a while or a glass of smooth red wine. This might be what it is for other people, but I’ve slowly started to realize that this wasn’t enough for me. But Mell, what is enough?
Good question…
And that’s why I’ve decided to start a blog: to hold myself accountable in this journey to finding what self care is to me, and really just figuring out who exactly I am supposed to be, what I love, what I want. Sounds like a major middle-life crisis, am I right? Well, jokes on you...it’s a quarter life crisis.
So, as I start this journey of mine, I invite those of you who might happen across my blog to join me and perhaps you’ll learn something new about yourself, too. Let the self care I discover not only be my light in life, but yours as well.
Mell
