There are so many good things all around us, but sometimes when you suffer from a mental illness or degrading health, then you might find it hard to be happy with the life you have. If this sounds like you, know you’re not alone because...I am right there with you!!!
And even though you might not be able to think of things, don’t be so hard on yourself. Here is a list of things that everyone might have, and should be thankful for:
Oxygen...we wouldn't be alive without it, and if you are reading this now, congratulations! You are alive, breathing, and on a journey to self care.
Food...whether you might be struggling but still have some food, or you’re basking in the light of your fridge on a regular basis, you should be grateful. Many people in third world countries lack the necessities they need to have a decent life. We are so lucky.
Family...whether for you that is your birth family, adoptive family, friend family, etc., when you think about them you should see that you are not alone. I haven’t always had the best experiences concerning family groups, but I am extremely grateful to have such a supportive husband, our two cute doggo’s and our little kitty.
The Ability to Strive For Better Things….I mean, come one. If you are still reading my blog, you obviously are striving for better things because this blog is all about finding your own form of self care, healing, bringing awareness to mental health and ridding it of negative stigmas, etc. You are working to be better, and feel better...don't give up.
Now, since this is my little Thanksgiving Shout Out to some people, I’d like to list my own things that I am grateful for:
I am extremely grateful for my husband, who continues to support me, be my Instagram Husband, make sure I have the things that our little family needs, and constantly taking care of me. I love you, Luis. Thank you for being in my life :)
I am thankful for my family, extended and immediate. I’m grateful for my mother, my father, all three of my cute sisters, my really awesome cousin-in-law A.E. (thank you for being supportive of this blog as well), and all my other family that is supportive, kind and accepting of who I am.
I am grateful for my dogs, and our kitty. Moose was the best deployment buddy while my husband had gone to Afghanistan. He was very intuitive of my emotions, and was constantly by my side when I was home. Maurice was the best puppy when we got him shortly after I had my hysterectomy. He was very cuddly, loving, and a great listener. Salem, our cat, is the cutest thing ever. He loves attention, having conversations by constantly meowing at us, and cuddling when he feels like it (hahaha).
I am extremely thankful for all of the readers that have checked out my blog, I really do appreciate you. I would love it if you continued to read, maybe comment what you want me to write about, and please feel free to share it with your friends or family. Thank you so very much!
Remember, be grateful for your genuine self. Don’t feel pressured, this thanksgiving holiday, to act a certain way around family just because they might not accept you or you’re afraid of judgement. If someone can’t accept you for who you are, maybe it’s time to take a step back and think about if those relationships are toxic or harmful to your well being.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, and I hope you find light this holiday season as you continue to grow and strive for better things by learning the right way of self care for you. If you feel stressed this season, don’t feel guilty if you need to take a step back and take time for yourself.
Here are a few pictures of my life this Thanksgiving Holiday :)
Love,
Mell W. <3
